Biography :
Educated at Berkhampstead School, 'Teddy' Hutchins was commissioned 2nd Lt. on 28.8.1930 into The Leicestershire Regiment. Promoted Lieutenant 28.8.1933, Captain in 1938, and Major in 1944. He served in 1st Bn in India and was Adjutant 2nd Bn in Palestine at the outbreak of World War Two (awarded MID 22.12.1939). His War Service included with the Trans-Jordan Frontier Force from 1940-44 and later as a Company Commander in 1/5th Bn ('C' Wing 148 pre-O.C.T.U. Training Establishment). Commanded the 2nd Bn in India 12.12.1945 to 2.2.1947, before completing the Staff College at Quetta in 1947. From Feb-Jul 1948 he was BM of 5th Inf Bde in Germany, and then GSO2 (Training) at HQ Western Command in UK. Commanded 1st Bn in Hong Kong, Korea and Germany 23.06.50 to 28.6.1953. For his services in command during the Korean War he was awarded the D.S.O. (L.G. 10.10.1952). He was gazetted Lieutenant Colonel 3.3.1953. He was Colonel The Midland Brigade 1958-59 and The Forester Brigade 1959-60. After retirement in 1961, he was Marshal of the City of London until his death in post in 1969, aged 58 years.
