Biography :

Les Hollis enlisted on 30.12.1929 as Private 4855594. Promoted to Unpaid Lance Corporal 19.1.1934 and Paid Lance Corporal 8.11.1934, and was serving in India with the 1st Bn in 1936. Later served with the 2nd Bn in World War Two, and was awarded the M.M. as a Platoon Sergeant Major for his actions in the Western Desert in 1940 (L.G. 25.4.1941). He was granted an Emergency Commission in The Border Regiment on 21.9.1941. Transferred to R Leicesters as a Capt on a SSC on 1.10.1946. In 1950 he was serving with British Element Trieste Force. He became a Lt (QM) on 22.3.1950, and Capt (QM) on same date, and Major on 21.9.1953. In May 1951 he moved from Records Office Warwick, to M.B.T.C., Warwick, and then to 2nd Bn The Parachute Regiment, Aldershot as Q.M. In May 1952 he became QM 5th R Leicesters (TA), and remained in that appointment in that Bn and its successor 4/5th Bn until he retired on retired pay on 31.3.1964. Having attained the age limit, he ceased to belong to the Reserve of Officers on 1.12.1966.
He died in 1984, aged 70 years.
