Biography :

George Hollins joined The Leicestershire Regiment in the late 1920s, and posted to 1st Bn in India. Promoted Lance Corporal 1.1.1928 and Corporal 18.2.1930. Was serving with the 1st Bn in 1931, including in the Corps of Drums. Promoted Sergeant 22.4.1933, and was Drum Major in 1933. Transferred to 2nd Bn in 1936. Promoted Platoon Segeant Major 28.11.1938. Awarded the M.M. for his action as a Platoon Sergeant Major (WO3) in C Coy in Palestine on 24.6.1939. Was a C.S.M. as at 8.8.1940. Served in Crete,where he was injured by a mine and remained a Prisoner of War until repatriated from Germany in May 1944. Awarded a Mention in Despatches for his actions in Crete (L.G. 30.12.1941).
