Biography :

From Castle Donnington. Francis Hibbert served in 9th Bn The Leicestershire Regiment during World War One. Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (L.G. 11.3.1920 "'As a stretcher-bearer he has shown marked gallantry and devotion to duty during the last six months. On 26th October 1918, at Poix-du-Nord the battalion was holding a line in advance of the village. A runner going from the front line to a detached post some 200 yards in front was badly wounded, and unable to get back again. This man immediately went forward under heavy sniping and dressed his wounds and carried him back to the front line.")'. This medal is in the collection of Leicester City Museums Service.
