Biography :

Harry Halford served in 1st Bn The Leicestershire Regiment. In 1924 as a LCpl in the Band he qualified as a stretcher-bearer at the Cambridge Hospital, Aldershot. Promoted Band-Sergeant 12.10.1928. Was serving with the 1st Battalion in 1931. Promoted Company Sergeant Major 25.8.1934, and was serving as C.S.M. with 5th Battalion in 1936 and 1939, and was appointed RQMS in 1940. Awarded the Military Medal (L.G. 6.8.1940) for bravery in action as WO2 (RQMS) of 1/5th Bn during fighting in Norway from 21st to 23rd April 1940. He later became RSM and was commissioned as Lieutenant 27.4.1941. As a Captain he served in the REME in the Middle East. He was later promoted to Major. In 1949 he was Officers' Mess steward at the Depot. Awarded The Meritorious Service Medal on 20.10.1954.
