Biography :
Humphrey Grundtvig served with the 11th Bn Leicestershire Regiment during World War One. Gazetted to Berkshire Regiment Oct 1914, transferred to Leicestershire Regiment on 27.11.1914. Awarded a Mention in Despatches (L.G. 28.12.1917), and awarded the M.C . (L.G. 1.1.1918: "by devotion to duty and coolness under heavy shell fire during certain operations. A truck of ammunition on a light railway was derailed and set on fire by a hostile shell, blocking the whole line. He and Company Sergeant-Major P. Stabler, who has received the Distinguished Conduct Medal, quickly collected a few men and unloaded this truck under great personal danger."). Died of wounds on 22.3.1918 received between Lagnicourt and Morchies the previous day, aged 21 years. He buried at Grevillers British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
