During the South African Boer War (1899-1902), he was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal with clasps, for Battle actions at Belfast 26-27 Aug 1900, at Talana 20 Oct 1994 , in Defence of Lady Smith 15 Dec 1899-28 Feb 1900 and at Laing's Nek 2-9 Jun 1900
