Biography :
John Greasley served in the ranks of The Leicestershire Regiment becoming a Sergeant-Major. He was appointed Quartermaster, with the honorary rank of Lieutenant on 23.5.1903. He was serving with 1st Bn in Belgaum, India in 1906. Promoted Captain 23.5.1913. Honorary Major and Quartermaster Greasley was one of only three men served with the 1st Bn throughout the First World War, from embarkation to France through to the Armistice. He was awarded the M.C. (L.G. 1.1.1917), most probably for his actions during the battle of the Somme in latter 1916. The photo was taken in 1906.
