Biography :

Appointed Ensign 20.7.1838, Lieutenant 3.4.1840, Captain 2.2.1849, Brevet Major 17.7.1855, Major 7.9.1855, Brevet Lieutenant Colonel 6.6.1856, Lieutenant Colonel 15.1.1861 and Colonel 25.6.1862. Was serving with the Regiment at Chatham as at 1847and again in 1849. Served in Crimean War arriving in December 1854. Was twice mentioned in despatches for his actions in Crimea. As Brevet Major commmanded the Regiment in the final assault on the Great Redan 8.9.1855. Served in Canada. He became Colonel in June 1862. He died 14.8.1883 whilst out grouse shooting on the hill of Correen, Aberdeenshire, aged 60. He was a resident of Sothsea, Portsmouth. His medals are in the collection of Leicester City Museums Service.
