Biography :
Martin Good enlisted into The Leicestershire Regiment on 11.8.1897, and was posted to 2nd Bn. Promoted Corporal 16.10.1900, Sergeant 16.10.1903, Colour Sergeant 17.2.1914 and R.Q.M.S. in January 1915. As a Sergeant he won the Ramsay Cup for shooting in 1911. All of his service was with the 2nd Bn and it included Egypt 1910, 1914, France 1915, Mesopotamia 1916-17, Egypt and Palestine 1917-18. He was Mentioned in Despatches, and he was one of 16 members of 2nd Bn “brought to special notice” by Lt Gen P Lake, commanding Indian Expeditionary Force ‘D’, Basrah, for operations in Mesopotamia 19 Jan-16 Apr 1916 (L.G. 19.10.1916). He was awarded the D.C.M. (L.G. 25.11.1916 "For devotion to duty. QMS Good has rendered invaluable service to the Battalion and has carried out his duties most efficiently.") He retired on 29.7.1919 with nearly 22 years service. He died in Leicester on 25.11.1933, aged 57. Two items of his uniform are in the collection of Leicester City Museums Service.
