Biography :
Frank Fox enlisted 3.9.1937 and was serving at the Depot as at 1938. He later saw action in World War Two in 2nd Bn The Leicestershire Regiment and was Mentioned in Despatches for his actions as Section 2IC, 2nd Leicesters, Western Desert, 1940 (December 1940 to February 1941) (L.G. 8.7.1941). Awarded the Military Medal for his actions as a Platoon Sergeant, 71 Column, 2nd Leicesters (Chindits), Mawlu, Burma, 12.4.1944 (L.G. 4.1.1945). Released from Army class 'A' 5.12.1945.
Action for which recommended -
On 12 March 44, parties of 17 and 71 Columns ambushed the railway NABA-MAWLU at hill 602. Cpl FOX, acting as platoon sergeant, was with two sections repeatedly attacked by the enemy. He was temporarily knocked out by a bullet wound in the calf. He regained consciousness and took a Bren gun from other wounded gunners. He carried the gun forward alone and by throwing grenades and firing the Bren gun he successfully covered the withdrawal of the two sections, inflicting casualties on the enemy.
