Home address given as Shepshed, Leicestershire. Enlisted at Loughborough, Leicestershire. Served with the 9th Battalion during World War One. Killed in action 25.9.1916, aged 27. He is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

Herbert was born in Shepshed in 1889. He was the son of John & Ann of 71 Brook Street. Prior to the war he worked at a Colliery as seen on the 1911 census. He was a border at a house in Donnington-le-Heath. Herbert was 27 when he was killed on the 25th of September 1917. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. His father John did not live to see his son killed as he died 18 months previously. What a hard blow for his mother Ann to loose a husband and son.
