Biography :

Served in 2nd Bn from about 1930 until 1933, and then in 1st Bn in India. Appointed Bandsman 11.04.1930. Promoted unpaid Lance Corporal 25.1.1936. He returned to 2nd Bn in Egypt in 1940. Awarded the M.M. (L.G. 9.9.1942) for his work as Section Commander/Platoon Sergeant, 2nd Leicesters, Egypt/Crete/Syria/Tobruk, Dec 1940-Dec 1941. He later served as a CSM in 2nd Bn in the Chindit operations in Burma Feb-Apr 1944. He was serving at the Primary Training Centre at Glen Parva Barracks in 1945. Rejoined 1st Bn at Long Marston in 1948 as CSM A Coy. Appointed RSM of 1st Bn in Hong Kong in 1950, and in Feb 1951 returned to England as RSM 7th R Warwicks. He retired from the Army in 1952. He died in 1991, aged 81 years.
His medals are in the collection held by Leicester Art & Museums Service.
