Biography :

Home address given as Leicestershire. Was in the Regiment as at 1.9.1939. Served in the Malaya Campaign. Died as a prisoner of war 7.8.1943, aged 22. He is buried in Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, Thailand.

Pte Faulks was posted to the 11th Indian Division HQ during the Malaya Campaign and became a POW at the fall of Singapore. Initially held at Changi POW camp he was later assigned to a work party in Singapore before being transferred to Thailand on 6th November 1942 as part of 'L' Party. He worked in Group II on the Burma Thailand railway construction and died whilst at Nam Chon Yai railway camp on 7th August 1943. He was later reinterred at the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery.

Letter from The Leicestershire Regiment, Yewlands, Hoddeston, Herts.

Dear Mr Faulks,

I am writing to you on behalf of Lieut Colonel C EMorrison DSO, MC, and the surviving Officers, Warrant Officers, NCOs and Privates of the 1st Leicestershire Regiment, Malaya to offer you our deepest sympathy in the loss of your son.

He was attached to the 11th Indian Division Signal Section, He was in Singapore up to the 13th May 1943 when he went up to Thailand to work on the railway. He was with a very bad party and a very large number died. I can assure you that whilst h was ill, he was looked after by British doctors and orderlies, and that he received a proper burial.
