Born to George and Eliza Fall (nee Spencer) at Oxford Street, Leicester on 25.7.1885, the second son of a family of nine children (one dying in infancy). Lived for many years in Bay Street, Leicester. The 1911 census tells us that Harry was a Lance Corporal in the 2nd Leicesters in 1911, but at the time of his marriage to Florence Charlotte Farrell on 1.2.1914 at St Margaret's Parish Church, Leicester, Harry's occupation is given as 'iron foundry worker'. By September 1914 Private Harry Fall is with the 1st Leicesters in France as part of the BEF.
A daughter, Florrie Fall, was born 26.11.1917 and four weeks later her mother died. Harry is not listed as the father on the birth certificate (registered after her mother's death) but Florence is recorded as the wife of Harry Fall on her death certificate. Harry was captured at Bois Grenier 15.10.1914 and held as a Prisoner of War by the Germans at Gottingen, Munster II, Soltau and Friedrichsfield before being repatriated to the UK in December 1918.
Harry married again on 31.1.1920 to Jane Chawner (nee Richards), widow of Henry Chawner who had died 16th September 1915 of phthisis pulmonalis. Harry was by then a coal merchant's carter. On 5.8.1920 a son, Leslie, was born at Warrington Street, Leicester.
Harry died of acute pulmonary tuberculosis at Melton Mowbray Isolation Hospital on 23.6.1932, one month short of his 47th birthday. His occupation was given as 'labourer at iron foundry' and his address was given as 13 Stanton Road, Saffron Lane, Lubbesthorpe.
Harry Fall is the elder of two brothers who served in the Regiment. William, his younger brother by 7 years, was killed in action at Sheikh Sa'ad, Mesopotamia (Iraq) on the 7.1.1916.
