Enlisted 8.4.1946 into the Royal Leicestershire Regiment and was a boy bandsman playing the oboe. In January 1949 whilst on a Recruiting Tour with the Band at Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire contracted Rheumatic Fever and was invalided out of the army.
