Biography :
Served with Leicestershire Regiment during World War One. Pte. John Henry Derrick, 2nd Battalion Leicestershire Regiment, a former Nottingham Forest footballer, was wounded in Mesopotamia, probably during the operations to relieve Kut in April 1916. His family received the news on 13th May 1916.
“DERRICK, OF NOTTM. FOREST, WOUNDED.
“News reached Nottingham on Saturday [13th May 1916] that Private J. H. Derrick, one of Nottingham Forest's fifteen soldier-players, has been wounded in action in the East.
“Derrick, who is a native of Nottingham, enlisted in the Leicesters’ last June, and first played for Nottingham Forest in the season 1910-11 at the age of 18.
“A native of Nottingham, Derrick played for Forest five seasons prior to the Great War, and after serving in the Army joined Loughborough Corinthians and was associated with Hughie Adcock on their right wing. Adcock later was transferred to Leicester City and played for England.”
John H Derrick survived the war and died in April 1938 aged 46
