Biography :

Educated at Marlborough College (where he was in racquets team and was 2Lt in the OTC), Richard Davis was commissioned into the Regiment on 21.2.1915. He served initially in 2/5th Bn in World War One, including in Ireland. Transferring to 1/4th Bn in France on 14.2.1917, while serving as Intelligence Officer in HQ 177th Brigade, he was initially reported missing and a POW, but later presumed Killed in Action at Bullecourt on the first day of the German offensive on 22.3.1918, aged 21. He is commemorated on Arras Memorial, Pas-de-Calais, France, and on a family memorial wall plaque, in St. Mary’s Church, Hinckley.
