Biography :
Home address given as Loughborough, Leicestershire. Enlisted into The Leicestershire Regiment at Loughborough on 5.9.1914. Served with the 8th Battalion in World War One, entering France on 29.7.1915. Killed in Action at Trones Wood near Gueudecourt on the Somme in France on 25.9.1916, aged 29: "When the whistle blew and C Company went over the top, he was shot through the head." His body was never recovered. Awarded the Military Medal posthumously (London Gazette 27.10.1916, page 10478). He is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France; on the memorial at All Saints Church, Loughborough; and on the Brush Company Memorial (in the Carillon War Memorial Museum) as well as on the Carillon. .
