Biography :

Albert Cox served with the 1st Bn The Leicesterhire Regiment in World War One, entering France on 9.11.1914. He was awarded the Military Medal whilst Acting Lance Corporal for bombing German dug-outs and searching for prisoners (London Gazette 18.06.1917, p. 7277). He was awarded a Bar to the MM when Corporal "for bravery on the battlefield, staying at his post and repulsing the enemy under heavy shell-fire, and for the way he directed his platoon and bombed the enemy on 21 and 22 March [1918, near Lagnicourt]." (London Gazette 27.06.1918, p. 7586). He was still in 1st Bn in France in April 1918.
