Home address given as Rempstone, Leicestershire. Enlisted at Loughborough. Served with the 1st Bn during World War One. Killed in action France and Flanders campaign 22.3.1918, aged 21. He is commemorated on Arras Memorial, Pas-de-Calais, France.
Tom Eustace was born in 1897 in Wymswold and was the son of Tom Booker and Susanna Coupland née Spalding of Rempstone. Tom Booker Coupland was born in Carlton in Linderick, Nottinghamshire, in 1854 and his wife Susanna Spalding was born in Branston, Lincolnshire, in 1856. They were married in Nottingham in 1890; they went on to have a total of eight children who were, Arthur Harold b1891, Claude Hindley b1893, Percy Edgar b1895, Tom Eustace b1897, Edward Ernest b1900, Charles Douglas b1902, Frederick Septimus b1906 and Maud Anne b1911. They were all born in Rempstone with the exception of Tom Eustace who was born in Wymswold, Leicestershire. In the 1901 census the family are living at Cow Lane, Rempstone. In the 1911 census the family are living at Wysall Road, Remstone and are shown as Tom Booker 57 years a farm labourer, head of the family, living with his wife Susanna 44 yrs and four of their children, Tom Eustace 14 yrs a farm servant, Edward Ernest 11 yrs a scholar, Douglas Charles 9 yrs a scholar and Frederick Septimus 5 yrs a scholar. Their three eldest children have all left the family home and boarding in the area. Arthur Harold is 20 yrs and single is living at Holme Grange Cottages, Radcliffe on Trent; he is a farm labourer and is boarding with Robert Costall 26 yrs, also a farm labourer, and his family. Claude Hindley is 18 yrs single is living at Forest Cottage, Derby Rd, East Kirkby, Notts, and a horseman on a farm; he is lodging with Lewis Andrews and his family. Percy 16 years single and is living at London Road, Costock, a servant, living with Samuel Richards 53 yrs, a farmer and his family. Tom Booker died in 1926 aged 72 years and Susanna died in 1935 aged 79 yrs; they are both buried in the churchyard at All Saints Church, Rempstone.
Tom enlisted in Loughborough and gave his place of birth as Wymeswold, his place of residence as Rempstone. He served with 1st battalion Leicestershire Regiment and first entered a theatre of war in France on 28th October 1915. He was killed in action on 22nd March 1918 during the battle of St Quinten he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial (Bay 5). Three of his brothers also served during the Great War, Claude, Percy and Edward. However Claude, who served with the 5th battalion Leicestershire Regiment, died of wounds on 16th April 1916 and was buried in Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont-St Eloi (grave ref. I.A.12).
