Biography :

Jock Cassie was commissioned into the Regiment on 9.8.1941. Was serving with 2/5th Bn at Dymchurch as at 1942. In early 1943 Captain John Cassie, whilst serving in Tunisia, lead a successful raid which lead to the capture of German and Italian prisoners; for this he was awarded a Mention in Dispatches (L.G. 23.9.1943). As Major, he won the M. C. as a Company Commander, 2/5th Leicesters, for his actions as Calabritto, Italy, on 5 Dec 1943 (L.G. 24.2.1944). His temporary rank of Major was granted or regranted in 1944. He was the Regimental representative at the unveiling of the Cassino War Memorial, Italy, on 30.9.1956. He later served as an Inspector in the Leicester Police.
