Biography :
William was born in Shepshed in 1896. His parents were George and Ann Butler of 29 Bridge Street Shepshed. .Enlisted at Shepshed in January 1916. Served with 2/5th Bn in World War One in Ireland and France/Flanders. Killed in action France and Flanders campaign 16.3.1917, aged 21. He is buried at Assevillers New British Cemetery, Somme, France.
His brother, Pte John Albert Butler Kings Own Royal Lancaster Regiment was also killed in action on the 28th of April 1918 he was just 20 years old.
