Broughton, Sidney James

Biography :

Enlisted at Leicester. Served with the 6th Bn during World War One. Died of wounds in France and Flanders campaign 2.10.1916, aged 20. He is buried at Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt-L'Abbe, Somme, France.

Sidney James Broughton was one of the fourteen children of James Glazebrook Broughton, a boot and shoe worker, and his wife Mary Jane, nee Moore. Sidney was born during 1895, and was baptised, with fourof his siblings, at St. Alban's Church, Leicester, on the 8th July 1898, when the family were living at 144, Dorset Street, Leicester.

He served with the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) from the 2nd March 1915. He died of wounds on the Sommeon the 2nd October 1916, At the time of his death the family lived at a house in Outram Street, Leicester. Private Broughton was entitled to the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, and the Allied Victory Medal. (information from a private source)
