Enlisted Hickley, Leicestershire . Home address given as Burbage, Leicestershire. Killed in action France and Flanders 21.12.1915, aged 27. He is buried at White House Cemetery, St. Jean-Les-Ypres, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
What the service record tells us
Born April 1889 in Shepshed
Age at enlistment on 24th August 1914 - 26 years and five months. Height 5 feet 7 ins Brown Hair Brown Eyes ; Single.
He had previous military service in the Territorials with the 1st Volunteer Battalion Leicestershire Regiment and the 5th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment from which he was discharged.
He enlists in the Special Reserve on 24th August in 1914, passes a medical examination with Dr Stanley in Hinckley and a military doctor in Leicester on the same day and begins recruits' training at the Depot in Leicester.
3rd September 1914 he is posted to the 3rd Reserve Battalion Leicestershire Regiment
11th December 1914 he embarks for France
12th September 1914 he is posted to the 2nd Battalion Leicestershire Regiment
27th January 1914 he is admitted to Casualty Clearing Station in the field with an abrasion to his finger
Evacuated to No 3 General Hospital at Dieppe with a gunshot wound to his finger
6th March 1915 he is sent to Oxfordshire in England to recuperate
15th May 1915 he is posted back to the 3rd Battalion Leicestershire Regiment
1st August 1915 he is posted to the 1st Battalion Leicestershire Regiment
31st August 1915 embarks at Southampton for journey to France
1st September lands in France
5th September 1915 joins the 1st Battalion Leicestershire Regiment in the field
