Bowell, Archibald Gordon Edward

Biography :
Archibald Bowell was commissioned into The Leicestershire Regiment on 30.1.1915, and served in the 9th and then the 8th Battalion, entering France on 29.7.1915. He was Killed in Action on 14.7.1916, near Light Railway at Fricourt, Mametz Wood, Bazentin Ridge, on the Somme, aged 26. Son of Charles William and Chatlotte E. Bowell, of "Leighwood", London Rd., Leicester. His body not having been recovered, he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
He played rugby for Stoneygate Rugby Club and made one appearance for Leicester Football Club in 1915.
