Bottomley, Thomas

Biography :

Served with the 6th Bn during World War One, first entering France 14.7.1915. Killed in action France and Flanders campaign 29.9.1916, aged 24. He is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

Further Information from the 'Evermore website' Thomas was one of the ten children of John (an agricultural labourer) and Ann Bottomley of 71 Stamford End, Exton, Oakham, Rutland.
He was employed as a waggoner, enlisted at Oakham on 7th June 1915 and went to France on 14th July 1916. Thomas Bottomley died on 29th September 1916, aged 24, during an attack on Gueudecourt.

His brother, Lance Sergeant Edward Bottomley, 241229, 1st/5th Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment, died on 5th September 1918, aged 21.
