Biography :
Educated at Hanley Castle Grammar School (Worcester), Charles enlisted as a Private 3585 in the Inns of Court OTC in May 1915. After completing initial training in 3/4th Bn The Leicestershire Regiment, Charles was commissioned 2Lt in the Regiment on 21.9.1915, and joined 1/4th Bn in Marseilles on 14.1.1916. Also appears to have served with 8th Battalion. Promoted Lieutenant 1.7.1917. Killed in Action at Cormicy on 27.5.1918, aged 28 years. His body not having been found, he is commemorated on Soissons Memorial, Aisne, France, and on Hanley Castle Grammar School (now Hanley Castle High School) memorial.
