Re-enlisted for WW1 and served with The Leicestershire Regiment until 22.9.1916 when he transferred as Private 12529 Military Foot Police. Discharged to the Army Reserve 26.2.1919

Awarded India General Service Medal with 3 clasps; Burma 1887-1889, Hazara 1891 and Samara 1891. This object is in the collection of Leicester City Museums Service.
