Biography :

Enlisted at Nottingham, 3.9.1914 and served with the 8th Bn in the France and Flanders campaign. Wounded (gunshot wound to left arm) 15.9.1915 and medically evacuated back to the UK. Promoted L/Corporal and then Sergeant, but reverted to the rank of Private when embarking from Devonport on the HT Persic for the Middle East. Joined the 2nd Bn in the field 3.4.1916 and was killed in action, 6.4.1916, aged 19. He is commemorated on Basra Memorial, Iraq.
