Biography :
Enlisted in the Leicester Military District into the Leicestershire Regiment, 1890. Listed in Enumeration Book 1891 census, Glen Parva, as being aged 19, single and born in Stafford. Named on 1892 2nd Battalion Muster Roll. Served as Colour with the 1st Bn during the Boer War. Was present at Glen Parva barracks as April 1901. He was serving as Colour Sergeant with the 1st Bn in 1908, and was serving at Aldershot, Hampshire, in 1911. Later served as C.S.M. with number 12802 during World War One. France 29.7.1915.
Further Info: Served in India (my father was born there); Defence Ladysmith, South Africa; retired 1911 renlisted 1914 at Glen Parva, South Wigston, Leicester; was wounded September 1916 in France (there is an X-Ray photo) & photo of Warrant officers Staff Sgts & Sgts he is 3rd from right bottom row.
Medal card states CSM & A/WOI. Medals: British, Victory and 1915 Star.
Additional Information: also served with the colours 1890 till 1911 pensioned off as Colour Sergeant (21 years).
In civilian life he worked as a colliery official by Crumlin, Monmouthshire.
