Biography :
Educated at Oakham School (where he won his rugby and cricket colours), James Atter enlisted in The Leicestershire Regiment at Melton Mowbray on 5.8.1914, and served in 1/5th Bn. Went to France with the Bn in February 1915. Killed in Action France and Flanders on 16.4.1916, aged 19. He is buried at Ecoivres Military Cemetery, St-Eloy, France. Photo is of him in the Oakham School cricket team of 1914. Elder brother of 2Lt Christopher Francis Atter (Leicestershire Regt), KIA 21/3/1918.
