George Ashmore enlisted at Leicester. He served with 9th Bn The Leicestershire Regiment in World War One, entering France on 29.7.1915. He was awarded the M.M. (London Gazette 27.10.1916, page 10475). Killed in Action in France on 25.9.1916, aged 29. He is buried at A.I.F. Burial Ground, Flers, Somme, France.
