Biography :

Commissioned into The Leicestershire Regiment in 1927, served in 2nd Bn in Germany and England till Dec 1930 and then with 1st Bn in India until 1935, when he transferred to 13th Frontier Force Rifles (FFR), of which he was a member till 1947 when he transferred back to The Royal Leicestershire Regiment in the rank of Major. Awarded M.B.E. (L.G. 14.1.1943) for his work as GSO2, HQ 10th Army, Iraq, 1942. CO 4th FFR in Italy Oct 1944-Jun 1945; Col GS at HQ ALFSEA 1945-46, and then CO 2nd FFR in Sumatra. OC D Coy/2IC in 1st R Leicesters in Germany 1947-48, when on promotion he became GSO1 Training at HQ Easter Command. Retired on 3.3.1950 and granted Hon rank of Brigadier. In 1933 group photo he is seated in centre.
