Biography :
Educated at Charterhouse School, John Abell was commissioned 2Lt in 4th Bn The Leicestershire Regiment on 22.1.1912, and was promoted Lt on 12.8.1914. .Served with the 1/4th Bn in World War One, entering France on 4.3.1915. Wounded in neck by rifle grenade 30.5.1915. Promoted Captain 18.10.1915. Was still serving with the 1/4th Bn in 1917. In Army List December 1918 posting given as Officer Bn. On group photo, he is standing third left, second row. He died in 1961, aged 66 years.
WILL: ABELL John Guy of Sunnyholme Church Walk Bruntingthorpe Leicestershire died 9 April 1961 Probate Leicester 21 September to Beatrice Ellen Vickerstaff spinster and Gerard Twisleton Haxby solicitor. Effects: £17,040 19s.
Further information: WWII - communications - it is believed that he lived in 'The Rest' Queniborough, Leicestershire.
