Lovett, John Thomas

Biography :
'Jack' Lovett made 104 appearances for Leicester FC's 1st XV between 1880 and 1890, and was a member of the very first Leicester team, which played Moseley in Oct 1880. A forward, he scored 9 tries in his first 30 matches, and none thereafter. He was the fifth player to make 100 appearances for the Club, which he achieved on 23.11.1889. A schoolmaster at a board school, in 1895 he was one of the founder members of Loughborough RFC. A useful cricketer, Lovett was opening bowler and middle order batsman for the Gentlemen of Leicestershire. He served in 1st Bn The Leicestershire Regiment for a time when it was stationed in England 1883-88. He died in 1938, aged 79 years.
