Biography :
He was enlisted on 7.8.14 at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire with the Leicestershire Regiment service number 139153. He was promoted to Serjeant in Loos and at some stage he was transferred to the Royal Engineers before he was killed on 18.12.15. He had a mining background and it is possible that this was the reason why he was moved to RE.
He was transferred to 253rd Field Tunnelling Company of the Royal Engineers, although they were not officially established until one month after his death.
