Biography :
Trevor Hobday enlisted in the REME in 1958 as an Apprentice Vehicle Mechanic (VM) at the Army Apprentices College Chepstow. Unusually for an A Vehicle VM he served for 2 years as a VM in the airportable infantry battalion 4th R Anglian, in Malta and Libya 1966-68. Thereafter he served in armoured units in in Germany (3rd Carabaniers, 7 Armoured Workshops, 4 Armoured Workshops) and was an instructor at Bordon on A Vehicles (mainly the Centurion Tank), being awarded the B.E.M. for his work as NCO IC 'A' Vehicle repairs, SEME Bordon, 1976-78 (L.G 1.1.1979). He served 22 adult years in the REME, reaching the rank of SSgt, leaving in 1983. He then settled in Gillingham, Kent, and worked as an AA patrolman until retirement in 2003. Son of CSgt Albert Hobday of the Regiment and brother of SSgt Bruce Hobday MBE REME.
