Biography :
Bruce Hobday enlisted on 25.8.1961 as an Apprentice Vehicle Mechanic at the Army Apprentice School. Joined 1st R Leicesters in Watchet on 12.8.1964 and served in it and in 4th R Anglian as a Craftsman and LCpl in Watchet, Aden, Malta and Gillingham until 1.8.1969. Subsequently served in 26 Engineer Regiment in Germany (Iserlohn and Celle) until 13.1.1973 as LCpl/Cpl and Sgt; and in 2nd Grenadier Guards until 27.1.1977 (Windsor, NI, Hong Kong) as Sgt I/C section; in OFP/IADOC (RAOC) until 8.11.1978 as Sgt I/C section. In 1978 he became a Recruiter at ACIO Cambridge until 10.6.1986 as Sgt/SSgt. Posted to LSL List (Army Recruiting) as S/Sgt LSL Office Manager of AFCO Luton/Bedford and Cambridge, from where he was discharged on 1.10.1998. Awarded the M.S.M in 1991 and the M.B.E (L.G. 14.6.1997). On leaving the Army, he worked as a Community Worker for the Army Welfare Service with 39 Engineer Regiment at Waterbeach, Cambs until 1.7.2005 where he retired early on medical grounds due to a back injury.
Son of CSgt Albert Hobday of the Regiment and brother of Cpl Trevor Hobday BEM REME.
