Biography :
Educated at Bancroft's School and Eaton Hall OCS, he was commissioned on 20.9.1952 into The Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment, serving in the 1st Bn and its sucessors 1st Bn 3rd East Anglian Regiment and 3rd R Anglian. Attended Staff College, Camberley. Served 4th R Anglian in Gilliingham and Bahrain as OC Coy and then as OC Admin Coy 1968-70. SO2 Intelligence, Fortress HQ Gibraltar 1971-73. Served as Chief of Staff at HQ Sultan's Armed Forces, Oman, 1974-76 for which he was awarded the Sultan's Distinguished Service Medal in 1974 and the O.B.E. (L.G. 12.6.1976). CO Infantry Junior Leaders' Bn, Shorncliffe, 1977-79. Promoted Colonel 30.6.1980 and served as COS HQ SW District, Bulford and then Colonel Ops/Readiness, HQ AFNORTH, Oslo. Retired 26.11.1988 and lived in Clare, Suffolk, where he was on the Parish Council and the Museum Committee. He died in 2013, aged 79 years.
