Enlisted in the ranks of The Royal Lincolnshire Reiment, and served in its 1st Bn, and its successors 1st Bn 2nd East Anglian Regt and 2 R Anglian. Served as RQMS 4th R Anglian in Watchet and Aden 1965. Later awarded M.B.E. for work as WO Admin, Jungle Warfare Wing, Malaysia 1971-73 (L.G. 1.1.1974).
