Wright, Charles James Stewart - BA

Biography :
Charles Wright was educated at Radley College and Hertford College (Oxford (on entry to which in 1909 he was awarded a History Exhibition and where it is to be presumed that he was a member of the OTC)). He obtained a third class in the Final Honour School of Modern History in 1913; he rowed in the Hertford Eight for three years, and in his third year was Captain of the Boats and President of the College. On leaving Oxford he was appointed to a mastership at Earleywood School, Ascot, where he remained till the summer of 1914. He was commissioned into The West Yorkshire Regiment on 12.9.1914, entering France in its 14th Battalion at Boulogne on 21.9.1914. He later served in 7th Battalion The Leicestershire Regiment, and promoted Captain in Aug 1915. He was Killed in Action at Bazentin-le-Petit on the Somme on 14.7.1916, aged 25. He is buried at Serre Road Cemetery No.2, France.
