Worsley-Worswick, Christopher Francis Aloysius

Biography :

Educated at Downside School (Somerset), Christopher W-W made two appearances for Leicester Football Club's 1st XV in 1905-06, and scored one try. He served as a Private in the Inns of Court OTC from 7.1.1915 to 21.4.1915. Commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in 5th Bn The Royal Dublin Fusiliers on 8 11.1915, he transferred to The Leicestershire Regiment on 22.4.1916, serving in 6th Bn in France and Flanders. He was wounded in the left shoulder at Fontaine lès Croiselles, Pas de Calais, France, on 3.5.1917, and consequently admitted to 3rd Southern General Hospital at Oxford on 29.5.1917. He was later admitted to the Military Hospital at Ripon on 22.9.1917, suffering from nervousness diagnosed on 18.8.1917. Promoted Lt on 1.7.1917, and posted to 3rd (Special Reserve) Bn. He relinquished his commission on 1.4.1920. After the war he farmed in Southern Africa. He died in Rhodesia in 1974, aged 89 years. Son of Colonel Richard Worsley Worswick JP of The Leicestershire Militia and (post 1881) 3rd Leicesters.
