Home address given as Tugby, Leics. Alex Whitlock was baptised in September 1895 in Tugby, the sixth and last child of Charles and Rachel. He enlisted at Leicester. Served with the 6th Battalion during World War One, disembarking in France on 29.7.1915 . Killed in action at Bazentin-le-Petit, The Somme, on 14.7.1916, aged 21. He is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

He was baptised in September 1895 in Tugby, the sixth and last child of Charles a carpenter, who was born in the village in 1862, and Rachel Clark born in Ireland. In 1911 he was living at home with his two sisters and working as a farm labourer. He enlisted in Leicester in August 1914 and joined “A” Company, 6th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment as private 1093. His initial training was at Glen Parva barracks before going to Badajoz barracks in Hampshire. He entered France with his battalion on 29th July 1915. Alec was killed in action on July 14th 1916 aged 20. This was the same day as his friend John Nicholas died. Neither has a known grave and both are commemorated on pier and face 2C and 3A of the Thiepval Memorial. Alec’s medals included the 1914-15 Star as well as other medals.
