Biography :
Cyril Wain enlisted in 4th Bn The Leicestershire Regiment in 1935. From the rank of Corporal, he was commissioned 2nd Lt in 44th (Leics) AA Bn Bn on 12.4.1939. As a Temp Captain he was awarded M.B.E. (L.G. 24.1.1946) for his work as Adjutant, 133rd LAA Regt RA, N W Europe, 1944-45. Awarded T.D. in 1950. Commanded 579th (R Leics) LAA Regt RA (TA) from 1951 to 1954. Appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Leicestershire in 1954. In 1938 he played cricket for Leicestershire CCC (and was later Vice-President); played rugby for Westleigh and Leicester Thursday RFCs, and was Captain of Rothley Park Golf Club in 1948. He was also Chairman of the Leicestershire & Rutland Federation of Sports Associations. He was CO of the Ratcliffe College CCF from 1956 to 1971.
He died in 1991, aged 84 years.
In 2017 his "tiger's head on wheels" cigarette box was presented to the Regimental Museum.
