Biography :

Home address given as Glapthorne, Northamptonshire. Enlisted September 5th 1914 at Worksop, Nottinghamshire, and was posted to the Depot. Posted to newly formed 9th Battalion, 26th September 1914. Promoted to Unpaid Lance Corporal February 8th He was killed in action on July 14th 1916, aged 28. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. His three World War One campaign medals, memorial plaque and personal items of Private Underwood are in the collection of Leicester City Service.
