Ian Tibbs was commissioned into The Leicestershire Regiment on 2nd Lt. 31.8.1940, and served in 1/5th Bn in Northern Ireland. Awarded the Military Cross for his actions as a Platoon Commander, 6th Bn The South Wales Borderers, North Burma, 5 Aug 1944 (L.G. 16.11.1944). Listed as wounded in August 1944 and November 1945. Mentioned in Desptaches for gallant and distinguished services in Burma and on the Eastern Frontier of India (L.G. 5.4.1945). He was a Temp. Captain from 8.2.1945-17.6.1945.
