Biography :

John Thomas served as Corporal in 1st Bn The Leicestershire Regiment in Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal, South Africa during the Boer War. He made one appearance for Leicester FC's 1st XV in 1909. He was a Physical Training instructor in the Army in Richmond in 1911, At the outbreak of World War One, he was a Company Sergeant Major in 1st Bn, entering France on 11.9.1914. Commissioned on 1.10.1914. He served as a Lieutenant and Captain as Supervisory Officer of Physical Training with West Riding Territorial Force Reserve Battalion.
