Biography :
Enlisted 18.7.1891 in the Leicester Military District into the Leicestershire Regiment, aged 18. He is listed on the 2nd Battalion Muster Roll of 1892. Discharged 17.7.1903. Private Swingler was a recipient of the Queen's South Africa Medal (with 3 and the King's South Africa Medal (with 2 clasps). Was still serving in the Battalion in 1905. Died 20.1.1963 at home in Hospital. His medals and service documents in the collection of Leicester City Museums Service.
