Served with the 2/5th Bn in World War Two, and was posthumously awarded the M.M. He died in Italy on the 22.11.1944, aged He is buried at Meldola War Cemetery, Italy. George VI presented the M.M. to Sergeant Stafford's son, Ernest Alan Stafford in 1946.
